DATE SET FOR PENNINE CUP:
This annual battle between the North West and the North East has been arranged for Sunday 1st July at Pendle. The North West Fed need a team of 3 advanced players and 3 handicap players and we try to match their team handicaps. We play 3 doubles in the morning (Advanced with advanced player playing with a handicap player) and 6 singles in the afternoon – three advanced and three handicap. Last year the North West won it. If anyone is interested in playing please contact Liz Wilson (email Liz).

PROVISIONAL 2018 LEAGUE FIXTURES NOW AVAILABLE:
The provisional fixtures for the 2018 Federation leagues have now been issued and team captains have the opportunity to discuss any changes they may want to make with their opposite numbers before they are firmed up at the end of February – all details are on the appropriate League web pages.
For 2018 there are a number of changes: In the B level Advanced league Fylde have decided not to enter a team in 2018 having won the trophy in 2017 and in the level play GC league Bowdon are entering only one team in 2018 following the success of their Bowdon Bandits team in 2017. The short league sees an additional team for 2018 where, following their success in 2017, Bowdon will have two teams in 2018, the Bears and the Cubs, and in the handicap GC league we have a new entrant as Crake Valley enter a GC team for the first time in their history.
Please see the Federation calendar for match details.
WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH OUR CROQUET MALLETS IN WINTER?
John Dawson uses his David Barrett Mallet to push snow of the roof of his car (smooth sides, just the right shape and length of handle!). What happens to your Mallet at this time of year? Why not let us know – see this post for suggestions so far – the best use will be announced at the Spring Club Conference on 4th March, there could be a great prize for the winner! (NOW HAVE 12 ENTRIES!)
Email your entries to MalletCompetition.
CATCH UP WITH SOME READING:
At the Federation Annual General Meeting in November it was decided to abandon the hosting practice of home teams providing a luncheon for away team players in league matches which will now be played on a self catering basis.
