Patrick Cheyne Wins Millenium Handicap (17 May 09)

Patrick Cheyne from Bowdon won the the North West Federation of Croquet Clubs Millennium Handicap Tournament at Chester last weekend.

He is seen here receiving the trophy from Janet Davies and Chester club member and tournament manager Elmyr Hughes. The runner up was David Boyd from Chester. Needless to say, the weather was quite horrid at times! (Picture, courtesy of Bowdon Website, www.bowdoncroquet.co.uk)

111th Peels at Southport (11 May 09)

Southport_Peels09_Players

The 2009 Peels players experienced everything at Southport last week (7-10 May) – Thursday required libreral doses of suncream, Friday winds almost blew players away, Saturday required wet gear and Sunday weather was almost boring with grey skies.

However, the lawns looked superb, the croquet very competitive and as always, catering excellent. The most ornate trophies in the croquet world went to: Liz Maltby and Nigel Graves (Mixed Doubles); Abdul Ahmad (Mens Singles); Amanda Hames Keward (Ladies Singles).

Festival of Croquet – June 2008

29 June 2008 by Chris Alvey

Bowdon win NW Fed Club Championship at Southport (29/06/08) by Tony Thomas.

Over 100 competitors in twenty three teams took part in this annual NW Fed Croquet tournament. This is the only Croquet tournament in the UK where players and clubs come together to contest Croquet in all disciplines.

The organisation, management and catering were excellent. The South Lawns playing really well and the North Lawns providing their greatest challenge yet with a speed of minus something Plummers. Add to the mix the Southport weather of sun, rain, wind and more sun to provide a convivial croquet atmosphere.

Crake Valley won the Advanced section, Bowdon the Handicap and the Golf, Pendle the Short.  On aggregating all the points,  Bowdon were crowned 2008 Festival Champions.
