Chris Alvey now on Croquet Association Executive Board

Following an advert in the Croquet Gazette, The Croquet Association have now appointed a new Executive Board under the Chairmanship of Beatrice McGlen who is well known to many in the North West. The Executive Board is responsible for day to day running of croquet in accordance with the strategy established by Council. It is comprised of a Chairman and six volunteer Board Members, supported by the Hon Secretary, Hon Treasurer, CA Manager and Council Chairman.

We extend our congratulations to Chris Alvey from Bury Croquet Club who has been appointed the Board Member with responsibility for the Croquet Performance and Selection portfolio.

Chris Alvey has specialised in the Audio-visual industry since 2000. Working in the Technology Innovation Centre in Birmingham running the AV team and progressing to lecturing in the North West covering both audio and visual mediums. He is still involved in the audio industry as a freelance sound engineer whilst working full time as a Senior Referral Administrator in Dental Referral Management. With GDPR and safeguarding training, Chris provides online webinars for support and teaching purposes using Zoom as well as dial-in technical support.

Playing his croquet in the North West, Chris is a member of Bury Croquet Club and captains their Caesars weekend handicap team. He is a Grade 1 AC coach and helps his club’s Golf players make the conversion to AC.

THE CA EXECUTIVE BOARD:

The CA Executive Board is responsible for day to day running of croquet in accordance with the strategy established by Council. It is comprised of a Chairman and six volunteer Board Members, supported by the Hon Secretary, Hon Treasurer, CA Manager and Council Chairman.

Each Board Member leads a portfolio of responsibilities for particular operational functions, ensuring that the chairmen of specialist committees and other groups working in that area understand the strategies and to inform the Board of their operational decisions. There are six functional portfolios:

Marketing & Communications Board Member – Marketing, Publishing, Website, Social Media, Gazette, Public Relations, Sponsorship.
Infrastructure Development Board Member – Federations, Development.
Organisation Board Member – IT, Membership, Finance.
Standards Board Member – AC Laws, GC laws, Handicapping, Equipment.
Competitive Croquet Board Member – Tournaments, International Competition.
Performance & Selection Board Member – Coaching, International Performance Directors, Selection.

FIVE Fed Croquet Tournaments in July / August

In this strange season, five Federation Millennium Tournaments are now planned for this Summer:
Millennium Handicap AC – Sat/Sun 11/12 July 2020 at Pendle.
National C Level Golf Croquet Qualifier – Sun 26 July at Crake Valley.
Millennium Advanced AC – Sat/Sun 22/23 August 2020 at Pendle.
Millennium Short AC – Sat 29 August at Crake Valley.
Millennium Handicap GC – Sat 8th August 2020 at Crake Valley.

Every club can enter two players in each AC competition and one player in the GC event.

At Pendle, to comply with recommended safety restrictions no food will be offered but Beer/drinks will be available from under the veranda. There will be a one way system in operation and the Buttie Shop across road has re-opened. Toilets will also be available as well as hygiene products. 

There will also be recommended safety restrictions at Crake.

Granada TV Encouraging Croquet

Granada News last night featured a report on Croquet. Filmed at Bowdon Croquet Club last week, the report highlighted the popularity of Croquet band how it satisfies the government recommendations for safe social distancing.

David Walters demonstrated some neat hoop running and even taught Reporter, Mike Hall, to run a hoop! John Dawson extolled the virtues of the sport before Liz Taylor Webb totally surprised the Reporter with …………..well, see for yourself:
