Party Time in Chester and You Are Invited

22 May 2017 by David Guyton

CHESTER CROQUET CLUB CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

Chester Croquet Club was formed in 1977 and, like everyone who reaches a significant birthday, we’re having a party. We have decided to hold it on National Croquet Day, Sunday, 4 June, from 2 to 5 pm with cake cutting and afternoon tea being served at 4 pm. There will be opportunities to have an informal game of croquet during the afternoon as well as a croquet gymkhana competition with a prize for the winner. Whilst we recognise that other clubs may be holding their own events on that day, any NW croquet player who would like to join us would be most welcome to bring their mallet and join in the fun. If you expect to come please

e-mail our membership secretary, Sally Slater, at springboard_sally@hotmail.com also have a look at our new website at www.chestercroquet.club .

Paul Durkin wins Pendle B Level Golf

20 May 2017 by Libby Dixon

Pendle B Level Golf Croquet 20th May

Paul Durkin being presented with the Pendle B Level Golf Trophy by Manager Roger Schofield (photo: Libby Dixon)

The tournament attracted 13 entries, double that of last year, with competitors travelling from Long Eaton, Richmond Park, Westmorland, Woodhall Spa and more locally Ripon and Bishop Monkton. The day saw the usual mixture of bright sunshine and heavy rain. The lawns were in good condition, though the rain in the afternoon did noticeably slow the run of the ball.

Roger Schofield managed the event. The competition started with 2 blocks, all playing all. The play moved quickly through the various rounds with 3 rounds completed before lunch.

The play off was between Paul Durkin (Long Eaton) and Michael Bilton (Richmond Park). The winner was Paul who is playing in only his 2nd year, 7/5.

1st Paul Durkin, 2nd Michael Bilton, 3rd David Llyod ( Westmorland), 4th Libby Dixon(Pendle), 5th Roger I’Anson (Ripon) and 6th Will Drake (Pendle).

Roger was thanked for his support of the competition and his usual high standard of catering
