Fed Postpones Croquet League Matches and Tournaments

17 March 2020 by David Walters

This message is being sent to NW Fed Club Secretaries & the NW Fed Committee.

In the light of the developing COVID-19 situation and, in particular, the recent advice to minimise non-essential travel, the Federation Committee has agreed to postpone all League & Millennium tournament activities until the end of June.  The Committee will continue to monitor the situation and decide later whether the Leagues can resume unchanged or whether some modified format is possible to allow them to be completed in the remainder of the season.

We have also agreed to take a separate decision about the Festival (scheduled for 27/28 June at Southport) by the beginning of May.

Coronavirus – Interim Rules for Fed Croquet League

17 March 2020 by Ivan Wheatley

The new croquet season is now just over a month away and the news about Covid-19 evolves daily.  I am confident that clubs are considering the impact of the virus on their own activities and will undoubtedly be guided by Government advice however I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that we are continually monitoring the situation and its impact on the Federation league programme. As an interim measure we have agreed to introduce a supplementary rule covering matches that are either cancelled or abandoned due to Covid-19.

·       In the event of a club being unable to fulfil a fixture due to Covid-19 issues arising from confirmed infection of a member of the club or self-isolation of a member of the team then this will constitute an ‘agreed emergency’ under league rule 2(b).

·       In the event that a new date for the match cannot be agreed within the required 3 weeks period after the scheduled date then the match will be declared a draw with one point awarded to each side.

·       If a match, for which the original cause of its postponement was Covid-19 related, remains unplayed by the end of the season then the match will be declared a draw with one point awarded to each side.

·       If during the course of a match it has to be abandoned due to a Covid-19 related issue then the match will be declared a draw unless the teams can, within a three week period, agree a revised date to play the match. If an individual game within a match is abandoned or cannot take place due to a Covid-19 related issue then that game will be declared a draw and the result of the match determined accordingly.

Coronavirus – Take Care of Yourself

14 March 2020 by Chris Alvey

The following narrative is circulating on social media – it is interesting and useful but this website and our Federation does not claim it to be totally accurate.

CORONAVIRUS
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it can take about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours – so if you come into contact with any metal surface – wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but – a lot can happen during that time – you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
10. Can’t emphasise enough – drink plenty of water!

HERE IS THE GOVERNMENT VIEW:

Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
