Wining Out in Chester

14 November 2019 by Il Vino of Chester

Major leak – club demands enquiry says Il Vino of Chester

Chester club was up in arms today when it heard that details of its closely guarded secret vintage wine had leaked out to the North West croquet world. How it happened is a mystery and suggestions that it had been secretly filmed in the handbag of some one leaving  a Chester restaurant late at night were dismissed as ” scurrilous”. The whistle blower who forwarded details to this website bottled out on disclosing his identity.

Andre, the sommelier of the world famous East Lancs (no West Riding) gourmet restaurant commented ” This is a complete surprise to me . As you know I love visiting the sloping lawns of Chester but have never seen the well hidden vineyard. I had heard rumours that the grapes were harvested in a novel way involving the swinging of a croquet mallet.

Suggestions that the market for this wine was being Rigged were dismissed as baseless as were rumours that Wilson of the Wizard fame used to train on it.

Salute !

Sam Seal Wins Fed Millenium Golf Croquet

21 July 2019 by Hugh Bray

Federation Millennium Golf Croquet Tournament 12th July 2019

On Wednesday 10th July, 12 contestants from the North West region took part in the Millennium Golf Handicap Tournament hosted by Chester Croquet Club. We welcomed competitors from Crake in the north of the region to Llanfairfechan in the south.

Two groups of 6 players played a round robin, with the winners of each group playing for first place and the runner’s up in each group playing for third place.

In a closely fought final Sam Seal from Llanfairfechan beat Roger Edwards from Craig y Don 6-4. The third place went to David Leach from Bury who defeated Brian Hayes from Chester 7-6 at the golden hoop.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to an excellent day – from the ground staff in Westminster Park who cut the grass at the crack of dawn, to the tea makers. We were blessed with perfect weather, the lawns looked great and we all remembered why we love croquet!
