Duncan Hector, of Great Dunham Croquet Club, is a lawn care professional advising on more than 90 croquet lawns around the UK. George Noble, Chairman of Surbiton Croquet Club for many years, converted Surbiton’s 7 lawns over the years from rough, sloping, former tennis courts to some of the best in the country. A leading light in instilling a volunteering ethos and always willing to roll up his sleeves, he willingly shares his knowledge via the CA’s Lawn Advisory Group.

NW Croquet League Fixtures 2021

6 January 2021 by Ivan Wheatley

NW Croquet Federation 2021 fixtures now published

The provisional fixture list for the 2021 federation croquet league season have now been published and has been sent to club secretaries and nominated team captains for comment. All six leagues including B Level advanced, Weekend and Midweek Handicap and Short Lawn AC and Level Play and Handicap GC will run as usual.

There are a couple of new entrants in the leagues. After a plan to take part in the Short Lawn league last year, which of course didn’t come off, Llanfairfechan have entered the Short Lawn league again this year as well as entering the Level Play GC league. Fylde have re-entered the B level AC league after a short absence to replace Crake Valley who have dropped out and Culcheth have again rejoined the Level Play GC league after standing down in 2020. Bury have reverted to just one team in the level play and handicap GC leagues.

In total we have 183 matches scheduled for the season which, Covid permitting, will commence on Saturday the 10th April and run through to mid-September. If for any reason we are forced to delay the start of the season we have plans in place to respond accordingly to ensure that we at last can return to the lawns in 2021.

Download the complete provisional 2021 fixture list – here.

Download a list of all Team Captains – here.

Contact details of all team captains can be found on the Who’s Who page or the individual league pages (where you can also download individual league calendars and match scoresheets)

Jumping in the Snow Croquet Style

31 December 2020 by Chris Alvey

“Oh the Courts outside are frightful
But the hoops and balls delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
We practice jump shots in the snow”

Playing Croquet at Pendle is always a pleasure but even more so when the Pennines have their annual covering of snow. Paul Rigge had fun knocking a few balls around and even did some interesting coaching on Jump Shots on the skippy slippy surface.

By the end of the day it was announced the area was to be placed in Tier 4 – restricting the Pendle croquet world to only two players per court for the foreseeable future.

Riggey in the snow – did it run?
