Competitors in the All England golf croquet tournament with local councillors, Razia Daniels and Neil Sullivan, who attended the event on the first day of the tournament

One of the Croquet Association’s national competitions for level play golf was hosted by Chester Croquet Club over the weekend of 4th and 5th August. Fourteen top class players from all over the country, including Ripon, Watford, Cheltenham and Bakewell, contested the Maggie Cowman trophy over the two days of play. Five Chester players joined the competition, Trevor Farrell, Chris Thomas, Jayne Taylor, Garry Greenwood and Roger Edwards.

The final match for the trophy was between two Chester players Garry Greenwood and Trevor Farrell. After an extremely close match the winner at 10-9 was defending champion Garry Greenwood who received the Maggie Cowman Trophy and a personal medal. The Chester Bowl for second place was won by Ann Brookes from Colchester, and Steve Marsh from Bakewell  won the Telford Plate.

David Guyton presented the trophies to the winners and thanked everyone for making it such a successful event for the third year in a row. David Crawford was manager of the tournament.

Steve Skelton Wins 2018 Fylde Jubilee Handicap

30 July 2018 by Peter Wilson

Fylde Jubilee Handicap Tournament  218/29 July 2018

Steve Skelton

The NHS had sprung into action, called up a couple of players and as a consequence, reduced the field to ten. Many regulars were joined by several players visiting Fylde for the first time. Steve calmly proceeded through each game scoring 5/5 while overcoming some peculiar weather on Saturday. I am sure other reports from around the country on this weekend will mention the elements. In fact Blackpool escaped the worst of it. Players were given enough Sunshine to dry off before the next dousing. In the final round, by winning, Steve held of the challenges from serial winner John Henderson (Penrith CC) and in another game Alan Morton (Fylde CC) who otherwise would both have had a chance through the tie break.
