R.I.P. David Leach

24 November 2020 by Margaret Eccles

David Leach

It is with very great regret and sadness that Bury Croquet Club announce that their dear member, great friend and fantastic groundsman at Coronation Park, David Leach, passed away in his sleep in the early hours of 19th November.  Our sincere condolences go to Margaret and her family.

David was a wonderful ambassador for the club. He ran the Bury North and Sovereigns Midweek Level Play Golf team with great enthusiasm and was well known around the North West.

As Groundsman at Coronation Park, his relentless hard work on the lawns enabled the club to keep playing during the difficult 2020 season.

For two years David took care of the Treasurer’s role and during this year has given continued guidance and support to the current Treasurer who is extremely grateful.

David will be so sorely missed by all members at Bury.

The other tournaments in the clubs restricted tournament programme were won by Anne Alvey – AC Short Lawn & Roy Spencer GC Handicap.

Bury Croquet Club President, David Barrett stated “It is great to see a young player like Jack developing into a skilled and competitive player. It also belies the misconception that the sport of croquet is for the older generation!”.

The Tournament was managed very competently by Phil Nuttall with very great organisation and all tournaments were played under strict local, national & CA guide lines.
