Croquet Gazette on Have I Got News For You

31 October 2019 by CA Website

“This weeks featured magazine is the Croquet Gazette….”

Have I Got News For You by Dr Eugene Chang at Cheltenham

‘The Croquet Gazette’ will feature in this week’s episode of ‘Have I Got News For You’, to be broadcast on BBC1 at 9pm on Friday 1st November 2019. The programme will then be available on the BBC iPlayer on demand service for 30 days.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the recording, the publication might not make it into the final edit of the programme. This is due to the original record lasting approximately two hours but the final cut lasting just under thirty minutes. That said, it is likely the publication will be featured in the main show, and at the very least in the extended show, ‘Have I Got A Bit More News For You’, which is broadcast late on Monday evening.

Sam Murray and James Hopgood finished with 10 wins apiece in the Chairmans Salver at Southport. Before the final round, James declared himself unavailable in the event of a playoff being required, having a train he needed to catch to get home to Edinburgh.

As it happened a playoff was required but with James withdrawing, the trophy was awarded to Sam. Chairman of Council Brain Shorney, travelled to Southport to present the Salver to Sam Murray.

Final standings:  Sam Murray 10; James Hopgood 10; Robert Wilkinson 8 (from 13); Daniel Gott 7; Robin Brown 6; Jonathan Powe 6; David Goacher 5 ( from 13); Chris Williams 3;

England Win Croquet International at Bowdon

16 June 2018 by CA Website

AC Home Internationals Hosted by Bowdon 9/10 June (Report by Sam Murray)

England won the Home Internationals at Bowdon, in fine Cheshire weather.

Some of the lower matches took a long time to resolve, with the dry weather exposing Bowdon’s bumpy lawns. Only England completed their three tests, winning all of them.

Scotland’s no.1, Jonathan Kirby, on a rare appearance, was the player of the tournament, not dropping a game.

Final Results Table

Position Team England Scotland Wales Ireland   Tests Won Matches Won Games Won
1 England  – 3 3 5   3 11 24
2 Scotland 2 –  2+ 2*   1+ 6 16
3 Wales 1 2+  – 3   1+ 6 15
4 Ireland 0 1* 2 –   0 3 9

+   The regulations declare the incomplete Scotland v Wales match as a 2-2 draw.

*   The regulations award the incomplete Scotland v Ireland match 2-1 to Scotland
