Will you still read your Croquet Gazette ?

28 December 2019 by Chris Alvey

As announced on page 3 of the November edition of the Croquet Gazette, from 1st January 2020 automatic entitlement to the Croquet Gazette in paper form for Standard Members comes to an end.

Standard Members will remain entitled to access the Gazette on the Croquet Association website and will be notified by email when a new edition is published. Standard Members will now only get a paper Gazette until the end of the year in which they join,

If you would like to continue to receive the Gazette in its paper form, you can do so by becoming either a Supporter Member for £18 p.a. or a Premium Member for £38 p.a. The latter category is really for those who wish to play in tournaments that are in the CA fixtures calendar, as it gives cheaper entry  and a higher priority.

We hope you have enjoyed getting the Gazette and will want to both continue to do so and support the work of your Association, at the same time taking out the appropriate subscription. You can do this easily by following the link below, login to the CA website, and then click the view icon (spectacles) against the CA membership line.  There is then a ‘Change Membership/Options’ button.

Your Standard Membership will be renewed automatically if you are recorded as a Primary member of a Member Club. Therefore, please check, and if needs be, amend by using the ‘Add Membership’ button, along with checking that your personal details are correct, including your handicap.

If you need any help, please contact the CA Office.

Flying High at Chester

15 December 2019 by John Dawson

Fed up of M6 Traffic Jams? – Travel the Chester Way

High flying Chester club was thinking ( laterally and vertically ) of ways to make next season even more exciting. Why not take a seaplane trip from the River Dee up to the estuary of the River Crake to play the eponymous club? Or a helicopter ride to Pendle to avoid both the M6 and the M65?

Chester’s new team transport

As a winter social outing, 18 members of Chester club visited the Aviation Park at near by Broughton to learn more about the airfield where Wellington bombers were assembled in WW2 and now a whole variety of planes are parked. The privately owned small planes and helicopters we expected but were staggered to discover the airfield was a dumping ground for a multitude of planes from the former USSR. Some were complete but others were in bits.

Executive transport for secretary Dawson

In the Spring we are planning a second Broughton outing – to see and learn about the 21st century technology used in the manufacture of Airbus wings.

Not sure it will improve our croquet but it was good fun”
