Croquet Volunteers Wanted

4 September 2017 by Garry Wilson

Garry Wilson (NWFCC Chairman) recently attended a CA Conference on the future relationship between the CA and the Federations – here are his comments:

Hello everybody,

As you may be aware, I recently attended a Federations Conference with David Walters and John Dawson.  Though it was a relatively short day, we managed to discover that as a Federation we are well organised and have a great deal of good processes and practices in place.

One outcome of the conference was the creation of a number of working parties and we have committed, if at all possible, to provide two individuals to be members of two of these working parties. The first working party is Communications, and we would be present as a Federation who seem to have got it right. The second working party is one entitled Marketing and Recruitment, which would cover recruitment, retention, sponsorship, etc. We would join this working party like every other Federation, believing we could do better.

We need to look within our Federation for these two participants. They do not need to be committee members. What is more important is expertise in the particular area.  All ideas, names and even volunteers would be most welcome, please contact me.

Best regards,

Garry Wilson, Chairman

Email Garry or phone 07711 623 311

PS:  Please don’t forget that I will no longer be in office after the October meeting and nobody has yet stepped forward to take on the Chairman’s role.

Forman Grills Players at Pendle Croquet Tournament

31 August 2016 by Garry Wilson

Pendle Summer Handicap Tournament 2016

With an entry of 13 it was bound to be unlucky for some!

Coming from the four corners of the known world – Glasgow, Keswick, Huddersfield and Edgbaston (but I really live in Rochdale), not to mention  Middlesbrough, Crake, Chester and Fylde, it proved to be an exciting competition. The weather was at times overcast but even the occasional shower didn’t dampen spirits and no time was lost to inclement weather.

The tournament was a play-on-any-days Egyptian, with 5 games to qualify. Day one saw an early lead for Richard Forman and a disaster for the manager, but the high spot was Betty Bates beating Lee Hartley in 39 minutes. This remained the fastest time throughout the tournament and earned Betty the prestigious Fastest Game Trophy.

Nine Players became 12 for Saturday and Sunday and the pace quickened. With two games to go, only a disaster would prevent Richard Forman from winning but the minor placings were all up for grabs. The disaster nearly happened when he lost to Robin Delves in the final match, but such was his lead, he could afford the hiccough.

The Pendle Summer  Handicap Trophy was presented to Richard Forman (Huddersfield), a worthy winner whose handicap fell by one full step. The Under Ten Handicap Trophy went to Roger Schofield (Pendle), who finished in second place and The 10 or Over Handicap Trophy went to Alan Morton (Fylde) who finished third.

An excellent fun tournament enjoyed by all, even the manager who redeemed himself to finish fourth.

Final Draft of New Constitution (June 2016)

18 June 2016 by Garry Wilson

With the forthcoming changes taking place in CA membership, our North West Federation Constitution requires amendments. Rather than make piecemeal amendments, Chairman Garry Wilson, with Graham Good, produced a new draft constitution last March.  After receipt of members views, Garry has now drafted a second draft which will be discussed and voted on at the November AGM.

This new Constitution is felt to be more democratic and more compatible with other Federation Constitutions. It also clarifies the criteria regarding Motions at the Federation club meetings.

Should you have any comments or questions, please email Garry at: garry.wilson@vodafoneemail.co.uk

You can read or download the proposed new Constitution here.
