The CA Women won an inaugural match against the reigning Division 2 Inter-County Champions, Lancashire. The match was held to be a success and it is hoped that it can be repeated next year.

Of the match itself, James Hawkins writes:

The CA Women’s Squad played members of the Lancashire Inter-Counties squad at Bury’s Whitehead Park on 7/8 May. The Women won the match 6-3. The new lawns needed particular care from the players, resulting in several long matches. The outcome could have tipped in favour of either team, but congratulation to the Women for a deserved victory.

Results (Lancashire names first):

Paul Rigge and Lee Hartley beat Ailsa Lines and Beatrice McGlen -6T +17 +17;  James Hawkins and John Haslam beat Annabel McDiarmid and Liz Wilson +14 +11;  Dave Nick and Peter Wilson lost to Miranda Chapman and Sylvia Steer -1T -2T.

2016 National Croquet Day

National Croquet Day
– A national drive to help your club – Sunday 5th June

Ncd-Logo2

Let us tell the world about Croquet ………….

On Sunday 5th June, the croquet world are inviting the public to try The Croquet Experience at their local club.

  • Croquet: a sport with that competitive edge
  • Croquet: a game of skill that anyone can play
  • Croquet: try something new!

National Croquet Day celebrates this interesting and addictive game that is increasing in popularity.  Most people know Croquet is a sport where you hit a ball through a series of hoops with a long mallet. However, not a lot of people know it needs skill and tactics rather than brute strength, so men and women, young and old, play on equal terms using an effective handicapping system that allows beginners to give much better players the scare of their lives.

National Croquet Day is our chance to show how competitive Croquet really is!  How Golf Croquet can be an exciting game with spectacular hoop shots and distant ball clearances.  Whilst Association Croquet offers opportunities for many skilful shots and break building tactics.

Many people are surprised to find the UK has a friendly and vibrant croquet scene with several world champions and world top-10 players.  Beginners discover Croquet is enjoyable and rewarding at all skill levels from beginner to advanced, and can be played to a high standard even by those not as agile as they were!  Croquet Clubs host local and national tournaments from April through October, with international competitions held regularly. It has been known for complete beginners to represent their country within three years of picking up the game!

Will Your Golf Croquet Handicap Change?

10 February 2016 by Chris Alvey

Changes for 2016

For season 2016 there are major changes to the Golf Croquet Handicap system. In essence, there is a much wider range of handicaps, the handicap indexes have all been increased and trigger points have changed.  Your Golf Croquet Index will now be much higher and this may effect your GC Handicap, however, for the majority of players between 11 and 3 their handicap will remain unchanged. The GC Handicap range has been expanded so it now goes from -6 to 20.

In general, weaker players will receive more extra turns (bisques) and stronger players less.  You still gain or lose 10 index points for a handicap game result.  Beginners should be started on Handicap 16, 14, 12 or lower, as appropriate.

If your existing handicap is 12 – handicap becomes 14 and Index 1050.

If your existing handicap is between 12 and 6 – handicap is unchanged but Index increases by 1000.

If your existing handicap is 5 – handicap is unchanged but Index increases by 1050.

If your existing handicap is 4 or 3 – add 1200 to your Index and if 1800 or above, handicap becomes 2.

If your existing handicap is 2 or below – your CGS grade becomes your new Index.

Handicap cards for both Association and Golf Croquet have been redesigned, moving to an A5 format with an additional column for the Date. The information regarding Trigger Points, etc has been removed and this is now available as an A5 insert – your Club Secretary has a supply of these.

These inserts are also available here:
