Two Ball Break Decides Millennium AC Handicap

Hosted at Pendle the tournament consisted of 15 Players taking part in a flexible Swiss format. Although the sun finally appeared in the latter stages of Sunday afternoon, the tournament was played in the dry with all lawns in use and Chris Alvey managing his first tournament..

Day one was dominated by Sue Pritchard of Westmorland and Roger Schofield of Pendle, each winning all 3 matches and finishing top of the leader board. Restart of play on Sunday saw the two leaders playing each other with Sue taking the lead. After a total of 75 matches, 3 players finished with 4 wins; Paul Kenworthy of Bury placed 3rd having lost to Sue the previous day.

The two finalist were Barry McKenzie of Bowdon and Sue Pritchard. They played a 2 ball break decider starting at corner 4 with hoop 4 being their first target. This was won by Barry who took home the Millennium Trophy and Sue was awarded the Runners-up statuette and a reduction in her handicap.

New Golf Croquet Rules Coming

The World Croquet Federation have approved the 5th edition of the Golf Croquet Rules and these will be used for future WCF events. The Rules update has addressed known problems with the current rules and an attempt has been made to align GC Rules with some aspects of AC Law. The presentation style of the Rules is also closer to the style of the AC Laws.

The Croquet Association are responsible for the  implementation of  the Rules and at present it looks like January 1st 2019 at the  earliest through  to March 1st 2019 at latest.

There are some significant changes which will need considering at a future Federation Club Meetings in order to amend our League Rules (if appropriate) for 2019.

North West Retains AC Pennine Cup

THE AC PENNINE CUP 2018 – Sunday 1stJuly at Albert Park

 The annual match between the North East (Yorkshire / Croquet North) and the North West Federations took place, for the first time, in Middlesbrough. Further more, because of player shortages, it was contested between teams of only four (with the EPL format).

All lawns were in use, the sun shone (too much) and folk enjoyed their lunchtime buns and fruit salad – what’s not to enjoy about a day’s croquet?
