Seven New Club Coaches on the Way

14 May 2012 by Ken Cooper

Seven players (5 from Chester & 2 from Bowdon) attended a Club Coaches Training Course at Chester (organised by the Flying Circus) in order to gain their Club Coach qualification. The weather stayed fine enough for them to be coached by James Hawkins and Ken Cooper both on and off the lawns. On the second day they were set various tasks in which to coach each other while James & Ken adjudicated. This is the first step towards their qualification which must be followed by an on-site assessment at their own clubs in a month or two before they can be considered for their badge.

FEDERATION CROQUET CLUBS

There is a healthy rivalry between clubs underpinned by a philosophy of co-operation and friendship.  The league system allows clubs to compete at various levels throughout the season which in addition to the range of tournaments encourages continuous improvements in standards of play.  Coaching is a priority throughout the region and clubs share facilities and expertise to maintain the well established network of coaching courses.

The location of croquet clubs in the north west federation covers a large geographical area including Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. There are probably many more clubs in the area who are all welcome to join the Federation.

David Walters Wins Millennium Advanced (Paul Rigge Reports from Heaton Park 22/04/12)

23 April 2012 by Paul Rigge

Heaton Park 21/22rd April, Neil Williams NW Federation Advanced Tournament

David Walters receives the Neil Williams Millennium Trophy from Bury Chairman Barbara Young

The annual Federation Millennium competition was hosted this year by Bury at Heaton Park. Geoff Young managed the event. Only Fourteen players were sent this year by their clubs to compete for the Federation’s only advanced tournament of the year. The Cup was played as a flexible swiss with David Walters displaying total dominance. The Trophy was won by Roger Schofield again, he last held it three years ago.The weather forecast for the weekend was dire but day one remained dry and calm, and only a single cloudburst on Sunday morning tried to spoil the enjoyment causing lawn one to flood for a couple of hours, solution – all retire to club house to eat Liz’s birthday cake(s) and don tutus. High jinx in the hut during a cloud burst that submerged lawn one and left large puddles on two.Luckily, Liz had lots of birthday cake (I did ask how old she was but she answered in croquet scores!).You’ll need to buy one of those present a drink to get any details about the dress or the special award given to Dennis! Fun was had all weekend and we hoped Liz had a Happy Birthday.
