Woodward Worthy Winner in Croquet Golf Millenium

12 June 2016 by Jean Hargreaves

Fed Golf Millenium Trophy goes to Culcheth

Seven players from four clubs took part in the Federation Handicap Golf tournament at Bury today 12 June. The day started fine but unfortunately was soon to become rather wet. The format was all play all and all 21 games were completed before or as time went. All games were extremely well fought where most of them could have gone either way, several of them going to the golden hoop.

After round four two players had four wins each. However the eventual winner with six out of six wins was Keith Woodward from Culcheth. Congratulations Keith.

David Lloyd Wins Croquet Millennium Handicap

24 May 2016 by Jim Alcock

The Federation Millennium Handicap Competition 2016

The Handicap competition was played on Saturday the 21st and 22nd of May at Crake Valley.

Although there was rain during the previous night the lawns were only slightly damp and play commenced at 9.30am with players from Crake, Pendle, Westmorland, Keswick and Bowdon. Part way through the first round of play there was a short shower after which the sun came out and we enjoyed sunshine for the rest of the weekend. By the end of the first day Ivan Wheatley (Westmorland) had won all three of his games with three other players chasing with two wins. Many of the games were close with scores of only one or two hoops.

On Sunday play commenced in brilliant sunshine and again Ivan won the first game of the day with only David Lloyd (Crake) being able to increase his score to three wins. As neither had played each other in the previous rounds the last game of the day was between them, the winner would take the trophy.  The game was closely fought with no obvious winner until the last few minutes of the game with David winning.

Everyone enjoyed the competition especially in the sunny conditions.  The trophies were presented by Crake chairman Tom Griffith Winner David Lloyd and Runner Up Ivan Wheatley.

Federation Millennium Level Play Golf Croquet  Tournament – 14/15 May 2016

David Barratt presents the Federation Millennium Level Play Golf Croquet trophy to winner Paul Rigge

Paul Rigge defended his Federation Title from last year, won at Chester, at Coronation Park, Bury, this weekend.

But he didn’t make it easy for himself, dropping block game after block game on the first day, but did enough by Sunday lunch to qualify for the KO stages.

Breezed through the semi’s to meet Dave Widdison in a Bo3 Final. Having gone 1 game up, he quickly lost the first 4 hoops in the second before recovering form to take the title 7-3, 7-4.

Was good to see our own Ken Eccles also fighting further down the field and he finished with points up on the weekend, he continues to climb the rankings.
