Coming Soon – biggest ever change to Croquet Membership

The Croquet Association have been working on plans to change the membership structure of the CA for some time – this will simplify the system and most importantly, include every club member for the first time.

At present, most CA members are classified as Tournament Members and pay £48.50 pa in order to receive the Croquet Gazette, Fixtures Calendar and eligible to play in CA listed Tournaments.  It is estimated only about 20% of club members are CA Tournament Members.  However, every club member does contribute to the CA via a Club Levy – at present, every club pays the CA £9.50 pa for each of their members.

From 2017, the membership structure will be changing dramatically:
STANDARD MEMBER – free to all club members who are then eligible to enter tournaments, will receive the Croquet Gazette and get voting rights.  This will happen automatically provided the new Membership Database (currently in development) goes live.
PREMIUM MEMBER – £40 pa – get priority discounted tournament entry, plus the Gazette and voting rights.
SUPPORTER MEMBER – £20 pa – means of supporting the CA but do not wish to play in tournaments.
CLUB LEVY – £10.50 – payable by all clubs for each of their members.

You can obtain more information from the Federation CA representatives – Peter Wilson (Fylde) or John Dawson (Chester).

Which is better an Air Show with a croquet tournament or a croquet tournament with an Air Show ?
Throw in very good weather, good lawns and excellent food with a glass or two of decent beer. Result — eight happy players.
It was a good test of concentration as the Red Arrows and an assortment of various planes did their stuff with a high noise intensity and tricks over the lawns.
Dave Nick managed in his usual laid back style and a loose all play all format was used. Triple peels were completed and sextuples started but not completed.
Dave Marsh (Wrest Park) made his first visit to Southport and won. He only lost one game. The runner up was Lee Hartley (Fylde).
