Party Time in Chester and You Are Invited

22 May 2017 by David Guyton

CHESTER CROQUET CLUB CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

Chester Croquet Club was formed in 1977 and, like everyone who reaches a significant birthday, we’re having a party. We have decided to hold it on National Croquet Day, Sunday, 4 June, from 2 to 5 pm with cake cutting and afternoon tea being served at 4 pm. There will be opportunities to have an informal game of croquet during the afternoon as well as a croquet gymkhana competition with a prize for the winner. Whilst we recognise that other clubs may be holding their own events on that day, any NW croquet player who would like to join us would be most welcome to bring their mallet and join in the fun. If you expect to come please

e-mail our membership secretary, Sally Slater, at springboard_sally@hotmail.com also have a look at our new website at www.chestercroquet.club .

If You Ever Go Across the Sea to Ireland

Chester and Carrickmines players (Photo: Val Hughes)

Following a succesful visit by Carrickmines Croquet Club, near Dublin, to Chester last year, Chester were pleased to make a return visit recently on 6/7 May.  A total of seventeen games were played over the two days in splendid spring weather.  Both clubs thoroughly enjoyed the friendly competition and Chester emerged as recipients for the second time of the trophy first awarded last year by winning 11 games to 6.

Carrickmines has excellent lawns and facilities. They are very welcoming and if any NW club or individual players are interested, I suggest they email Sandy Greig, the croquet secretary on: croquet@carrickmines.com.  Additionally the ferry companies provide excellent ferry/ hotel/ B&B packages (Holyhead to Dublin) so you can add on a car tour of the Emerald Isle.

Silver for David Boyd at All England Croquet

17 September 2013 by David Guyton

After coming first and second in the northern area finals of the All England Handicap competition at Chester over the weekend of 31 August – 1 September, David Boyd and John Dawson took part in the national finals at Colchester on 14 – 15 September.  John Dawson was one of three competitors who won four of his five games and David Boyd won three of his five games but the overall winner was a young player from Peterborough, Joe Iddison, playing off a handicap of 16.

However, David Boyd achieved a Croquet Association Silver Medal in one game for running all twelve hoops from start to peg in a single innings with no bisques and winning the game.
